Hey yall! A little about me:
I am a Black mama of 2 boys, one angel, and one on the way! I have had completely different birthing experiences with each. I started this journey in rural northwest Texas where I grew up! Small town with barely a Walmart, but a big ol prison! The irony.. Although there was a dire need for a birthing center/labor and delivery dept in our area, on December 6th, 2017 ( 8 short months after having my 2nd child) the local hospital closed its Labor & Delivery Department. This put our small town in the middle of a Maternal Health Drought - location where people must travel beyond 45 minutes for proper/full OB/GYN care and deliveries. Shortly after I found myself working overnight reception/registration for that hospitals Emergency Dept and I witnessed discrimination in all forms, at all levels, in all spaces, by the exact staff that we are supposed to trust to care for us. We experienced many different shortcomings, not due to our living environments, but our lack of ethical health and cultural environments. It is time for a change in energy and protection for our BIPOC folks in every community. In 2020 I started my Birth & Postpartum Doula journey and in 2021 I abruptly moved from Tx to Albuquerque NM. Within a month I was nominated by the OAAA as one of 8 BIPOC Community members on the New Mexico Maternal Mortality Review Committee (One of the leading MMRC's in equitable and cultural change in the Nation) due to the divine efforts of the Black and Indigenous Perinatal Collaborative because of the work I was doing with Women In Leadership to help the ladies incarcerated and coming home. And everything bloomed from there! I found more spaces that needed true representation of community and cultural insight, more knowledge, and reliable energy. Since then I have participated in webinars for Black Mama's Matter Alliance, Black Maternal Health Week, CDC, Region 6 OASH,+ many more, I have taught classes in prison systems, dismantled white supremacy spaces to build community grace, and helped drive legislative changes for a healthier NM! Now I am back home to start that same transformation!
From birth, mental health, substance use/abuse awareness & prevention, recidivism, and policy. I am in there, SOUL DEEP!
I am Down Doula Dai & I am here for all mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual factors you grow through in this journey. I dedicate my time especially and specifically to what each family needs from me. Willing to go beyond the stars to create the experience you deserve.
Welcome to DOX Sacred Space!
